On May 17th, we observe International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia.

While this day touches all aspects of life, we wanted speak specifically about sports (because it's kinda our thing).

We don't need to tell you about the discrimination, intolerance, and bigotry that 2SLGBTQI+ players face. Almost all of us have experienced, or witnessed it, first hand.

What we will say is that for anyone who has experienced homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in sport, we stand beside you and support you. No one should ever be discriminated against for being who they are.

But that also goes beyond players. Bigotry isn't just felt by players on the pitch (or rink, or court), it can be felt across the whole sport ecosystem. It can be felt by coaches, assistant coaches, physios, fans, ball kids, front office execs, ticket reps, security guards, referees, kit managers, grounds crew, food vendors, team social media managers, game-day announcers, and anthem singers.

It can also felt by carpool drivers, orange slicers, parent volunteers, house league program directors, gym teachers, and grownups cheering on their kids.

It can be felt by anyone and everyone who is involved in sport. But it shouldn't be.

Pride House TO welcomes you to come as who you are, however you fit in the sports community. Our ambition is to end 2SLGBTQI+ sport discrimination at every level: You belong here.

We recently joined @bannerfactoryto for their annual banner painting workshop at @mlselaunchpad!

This year we worked with Jason Colero and his Huddle Up Bullying Prevention Program. The program was established to help teachers, parents, staff, and students to create a positive school culture by increasing awareness around bullying prevention, mental health, social justice, and inclusion. Jason has spear headed this incredible initative for 25 years!

100 kids, aged 11-14, grabbed the paint and helped bring colour to bring supportive and anti-bullying messages.

Bullying is something many members of our community have faced in their lives, as children and as adults.

Helping kids learn the impact misdirected anger and targeted “jokes” can have will help them become more resilient and understanding of others.

In these last few hours of Lesbian Visibility Day, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on how the lesbian community is often overlooked and/or over simplified.

It's easy to celebrate a group on a specific day, but it's hard to acknowledge their hardships, barriers, and, at times, invisibility from larger narratives. Lesbian Visibility Day is definitely for celebration, but it's also to recognize those who are finding their own voice, story, and place.

We hold space for the lesbians who feel empowered, feel ignored, and feel unsure of today (and every day). You're always welcome with us, we'll save a spot at our table.

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, a day where we recognize, celebrate, and hold space for the trans community. At Pride House Toronto, we will do all that we can (today and every day) to stand alongside our trans family.

Why? Because the formalization of anti-trans normalization is becoming more commonplace and it's as equally scary as it is infuriating. With recent anti-trans messages coming from global organizations like the International Olympic Committee, the English FA, and even Girlguiding UK, we need to come together to lift up each other and fight like hell against this discrimination.

We also need to acknowledge those who are immediately by these decisions and amplify those who are doing everything they can to push back on them.

The world will be watching us as we prepare to co-host the 2026 Men's World Cup and we want our message to be clear: at PHTO, you are always welcome to come through our doors. Sports are for everyone.

More shocking: 36% of people who witnessed an incident (discrimination, racism and unfair treatment) reported not taking action to help the victim or stop the instigator.

7% stated that they even participated in the assault, joining in with the instigator.

Bullying doesn’t just happen in the school yard. It happens in any place that we allow it to.

Which is why Pride House Toronto is proud to participate in Pink Shirt Day: a day when the country comes together to stand up to bullying. In all its forms.

Pink Shirt Day is a reminder that inclusion is an action and bullying has no place in our community.

And our second Family Day post on how the @dtsoccerto community resonates over generations:

The idea of "found family" doesn’t exactly fit with what my family has gained from DST; rather, the league has provided us with more of an extended family. My partner and I had played in the league for a good ten years before we adopted our son at 10 years old. For the past ten years after we adopted him there has been so much love and support for him from the league. Our league mates have stepped in both on and off the pitch: from keeping our son safe during games to a couple of our friends, Shawn and Rachelle, babysitting when my partner and I needed a date night.

Our son has had a lot of struggles, and they say that the prognosis for children increases significantly for each caring adult that they have in their lives. DST has provided many caring adults for him. Even now that he is 22 years old, teammates past and present still check in and love reconnecting with him when he comes to games.

For a brief time, our son joined the league and the executive happily broke the rules so that my partner, our son, and I could play on the same team. The best memory I have of that time was the three of us moving the ball up the pitch together with a sense of synergy we have rarely experienced, working not only as a family, but as a team.

This was the year Pride House TO launched, found a home at @gbcollege, caught a couple of games (thanks @canadasoccer / @torontofc / @inter_toronto ), lived through *that* FIFA draw, and started the countdown to the FIFA Men’s World Cup (with just about six-ish months to go!)

We’re closing out the year in a calm way and stepping into the next one gently.

Behind the scenes, we’re already working toward new partnerships and some exciting announcements. We’re looking forward to sharing them with you in the months ahead!

My voice is still recovering from last week’s game, but I felt it was important on this Transgender Day of Remembrance to personally share with you that one of the very first decisions we made as a committee was to make it clear that our Pride House is trans-inclusive. It’s also one of the first things we added to our site, pridehousetoronto.com.

Making a statement on trans inclusion feels especially necessary in this era of misinformation, manipulation and distraction.

We challenge everyone to learn more about trans folks and the contributions they’ve made to our society, whether you were aware or not. Talk to your neighbours. Read a book. Get to know the real people instead of listening to fear and uproar.
